Isabella Paoletto is a journalist in New York City. She has worked at a variety of small local papers to national publications such as Business Insider and The New York Times.

I can remember a handful of times where a story was so powerful and moving that a lump formed in my throat and I occasionally had to glance up from my screen or stop what I was doing to avoid tears falling down my face.

They were the kinds of stories that gave people a voice, and deepened my love for journalism and storytelling each and every time.

Style reporter

The New York Times Aug. 2022 - Nov. 2022

I was internally selected from dozens of applications in a blind review process to participate in the embed program at The Times. I detached from my permanent role as a senior news assistant and spent three months pitching and reporting articles for the Style desk. Read some of my work here.

Senior news assistant

The New York Times | Aug. 2020 - Present

Web production fellow

Business Insider | Oct. 2019 - April 2020

I assisted various desks across the newsroom with tasks ranging from moderating phone calls and emails to producing weekly newsletters, managing social media accounts, putting together the printed paper and writing short articles as a news assistant. I was promoted as a senior news assistant on the Standards desk where I fact-check articles and write corrections for the paper.

Assisted the Tech How To team with editing articles and uploading to the Insider CMS system, ensuring optimal metadata, headlines, and other SEO data. In 2021, I still held the third most page views of any Tech Reference editor, with over 820,000 views. I also wrote entertainment articles, such as profiles on celebrities like Toni Braxton and Ken Jeong.

These experiences have all taught me something different about the type of journalist I want to be and how I can use my perspective to create more complete, ethical and responsible journalism.
